Darien and Lovisa unite
King Darien of Kjeldor and Lovisa Coldeyes of Balduvia stand at the center of a cooperation that will change the war. Their peoples' differences remain, but they can no longer afford to let those differences decide whom they must fight. Against Lim-Dul, every loss in their old conflict strengthens the army of the dead.
The divisions within Kjeldor
Kjeldor itself is divided. Avram Garrisson leads the Knights of Stromgald, demanding supremacy for the kingdom. Military strength can defend Kjeldor, but it can also turn against its neighbors and its own institutions. Jodah and Jaya prevent an attempt on King Darien's life, helping clear a path toward cooperation with Balduvia.
Mairsil's ring
Lim-Dul was once a Kjeldoran deserter. Finding Mairsil's ring gave him power and allowed an older will to influence him. Leshrac expects an army that can serve ambitions beyond Dominaria and an opportunity to escape through Shandalar. But Lim-Dul spends his forces on the war with Kjeldor. Master and servant do not pursue quite the same purpose.
Shandalar and the Shard
The isolation of the twelve-plane Shard makes the wandering plane a vital route. The necromancer's ambitions and Leshrac's reach extend beyond the winter-bound continent. Defeating the visible army cannot by itself destroy every power behind it.
The living against the dead
The conflict culminates in a major battle. Former enemies stand against the same undead force. Jaya's fire, Jodah's experience, and their allies' resistance give the living a shared answer to the army that used their divisions against them.
Leshrac's intervention
Jodah confronts Lim-Dul, but Leshrac intervenes and takes the necromancer to Shandalar. The immediate threat leaves Dominaria. Lim-Dul's history will continue elsewhere; for Terisiare, the retreat of his army opens a future that had been held under threat. The dead are gone from the battlefield, but the ice remains.
Fyndhorn and Freyalise
In Fyndhorn, elves and the druids of the Juniper Order share their faith in Freyalise. Jodah's mirror acquires another purpose: the object that helped preserve his memory also helps make Freyalise's great spell possible.
The World Spell
The World Spell reaches beyond Kjeldor and Balduvia's borders. Freyalise breaks the Shard's isolation and ends the eternal winter. Dominaria is open to the Multiverse again, and the conditions under which generations survived begin to change.
A changed Dominaria
Ending the ice does not restore those who died beneath it. Jodah worries about the abrupt climatic change and its consequences. The peoples who endured the frozen world must now live through its transformation. Their alliance has defeated an immediate enemy, and Freyalise has ended an era. Neither victory erases the struggles that brought them there.
